What
is Peterborough Praise?
Quite simply it's a venture by a growing number (over 30 of various
denominations at the last
count) of the city's churches, working together to create an exciting series
of bi-monthly, city-wide praise and worship celebrations for Peterborough
Christians.
Peterborough Praise is open to all, but is aimed especially
at those who want to deepen their faith, while experiencing more modern worship
styles and music.
The series of events was originally inspired by October 2000's two visits to the
Peterborough Diocese by the Church of England's 'Springboard' team, set up to
breathe new life into C of E services across the UK.
"You only have to visit large Christian gatherings such as Spring
Harvest to see how many faithful Church of England worshippers like the kind
of livelier worship traditionally enjoyed by the 'charismatic' churches,"
said one of the organising committee members.
"One of the strengths of many churches are their traditions, including
the Eucharistic structure of many services. Peterborough Praise isn’t in any
way intended to compete with any of that, or cut across what churches in the
diocese are already doing. It’s simply a way of adding something many feel is
missing in the range of worship opportunities available in the city.”
A different church hosts each event every two months. (See list
of venues and dates.)
